History

We are a relatively small County with some twenty five clubs affiliated to our Association. The clubs involved include, Aqualate, Arscott, Bridgnorth, Chesterton Valley, Church Stretton, Hawkstone Park, Henlle Park, Hill Valley, Horsehay Village, Lilleshall Hall, Llanymynech, Ludlow , Market Drayton, Meole Brace, Mile End, Oswestry, Patshull Park, Shifnal, Shrewsbury, Telford, Severn Meadows, The Shropshire, Welsh Border, Worfield, and Wrekin Golf Clubs.

We meet five times during the year with a full Executive committee and our AGM is held in October either at Shrewsbury Golf Club or Wrekin. These two clubs are the most central to our County and therefore most convenient to our members. Prior to these Executive meetings we hold a Management meeting which involves the officers plus three nominated delegates from the clubs within the County. There are new nominations every year for these club delegates in order to rotate amongst as many of the clubs as we can. All of these meetings are held at Shrewsbury Golf Club.

The inaugural meeting was held on 30 th November 1921. The name was changed from Shropshire Ladies’ County Club to the current name of Shropshire Ladies’ County Golf Association in 1928. It was made up of six clubs which included Shrewsbury; Wrekin; Church Stretton; Market Drayton; Hawkstone Park and Newport. The first President of the Club was Lady Forester who remained in office until 1934. During this time in the year 1928 the name of the club was changed to “Shropshire Ladies’ County Golf Association” and county colours, in the form of a tie, were presented. Also this year a further club, Whitchurch joined ‘The Association’ making seven affiliated clubs. For more information please click on the button below:-
